Severe Sepsis and SECAmb

Code Yellow Sepsis Pathway

The South East Coast Ambulance Service Code Yellow Sepsis Pathway is a pre-hospital screening tool for patients that present with an infection; there are various elements of the pathway:

  1. The pathway screens patients with suspected infections for systemic illness and in these patients, sepsis is screened for
  2. For patients where sepsis is not suspected, that pathway ensures appropriate referral and safety netting
  3. For patients where sepsis is suspected, an evidence based care bundle is delivered, including elements of the Sepsis Six
  4. A pre-alert is given to the receiving department and the pathway aims for the patients to receive antibiotics in hospital within one hour of pre-hospital diagnosis
