All route and urgent orthopaedic referrals should go via the Collaborative Orthopaedic Triage (COT) - a Referral Assessment Service (RAS) on e-RS:

How to refer on e-RS:

  1. Search:  East Kent Orthopaedics RAS
  2. Request Type:  Appointment
  3. Priority:  Routine / Urgent
  4. Specialty:  Orthopaedics
  5. Clinic Type:    Foot and Ankle, Knee, Sports Trauma, Shoulder & Elbow, Spine – Back Pain, Hand and Wrist, Spine – Neck Pain, Spine – Scoliosis & Deformity, Hip, Limb Deformity/Reconstruction
  6. Instruction:  From search results choose ‘Send for Triage’ East Kent Orthopaedics SKC RAS 1-5.
    1. Please note that the numeric assignment 1-5 for each RAS is for reference only and does not denote order of priority. 
    2. Please ensure relevant information is attached to the referral on e-RS

Referrals should contain:

  • Working diagnosis / clinical impression
  • Brief history of presenting condition – traumatic / non-traumatic onset
  • Duration of problem
  • Relevant previous medical history (history of cancer)
  • Psychosocial history and employment status
  • Details of primary management and response e.g. physiotherapy, injections
  • Details of current medications
  • Relevant diagnostic investigations and results
  • BMI (other relevant RaTC information – e.g. weight loss attempted)
  • Current mobility status
