Adult Speech and Language Therapy Service

Kent Community Health NHS Foundation Trust (KCHFT) provide an adult community speech and language service, which specialises in treating communication and swallowing disorders using one-to-one or group therapy, carer support and advice. The team works in community clinics, hospitals, private homes and nursing and residential homes and the team provides training programmes to tackle such things as communication after a stroke, feeding and communication difficulties for people suffering from dementia and recognising and managing swallowing and vocal problems including stammering and slurred speech

Patients can have a range of long-term conditions including Parkinson’s disease, motor neurone disease, multiple sclerosis, stroke, dementia and Huntington’s disease, but therapists are not generally able to treat patients whose condition is the result of a hearing impairment or who have lifelong conditions such as autistic spectrum disorders
